Meet HPQ ICO – The Most Advanced Ultra High Purity Quartz production factory.
Based in HCMC, Vietnam, we are building a facility focused on the industrial production of high purity quartz (HPQ) using low cost and environmentally friendly technology.
High Purity Quartz is a key raw material used in the semi-conductor, solar, lighting and optical industries. It is essentially a very pure version of quartz, defined as having at least 99.995% SiO2 content.
Unlike other industrial mineral markets, there is limited competition in the global HPQ industry with two producers handling more than 80% of global production. It is very difficult to obtain high purity quartz using standard technology. This means that prices remain fairly steady. There is a shortage/unavailability of really pure HPQ in the market and increasing demand.
Many small companies can’t get stable supplies of ultra-pure HPQ from the two big producers so they need to purchase the product at a spot market which is expensive, or purchase a product of lower purity than they would like.
Our technology is a novel approach to produce high purity quartz at a much lower cost than any other producer. Instead of the classic method of quartz purifying (taking out the impurities step by step), we “pull” only the needed element, SiO2, out of the raw quartz-containing material which can be quartz sand of any purity.
We initially came up with the idea through a university project back in 2004. After many years of testing in the laboratory, we finally produced a pilot production line in 2012-2013. Since then we have been conducting market research, obtaining feedback from buyers, and building up the demand. A few months ago, we built a second pilot production line with the help of an investor. Our technology is now completely ready for industrial use, and in 2018 we plan to build the first commercial production line.
We have also successfully tested using a coal ash from thermal power plants for getting quartz for our production. Our plan is to use only quartz extracted from coal ash instead of natural quartz sand.

In the next several years, with your help, our team plans to expand production to 30,000 tonnes per annum, as well as continue our R&D and expand into other technologies.
